The IT Department
The IT Department provides all of the school IT services and networking, supporting c.2,000. The IT Department is responsible for the procurement, development, support and maintenance of equipment, system security, the hardware infrastructure, software and data systems, and the building, installation and maintenance of the computers for staff and pupil use. The school is a Microsoft-based establishment with use of Apple technology in its creative arts.
The Head of IT would be responsible for an IT team of 9 including an Applications Manager, Network Manager, and Team of Technicians.
Overall Purpose and Responsibilities
The Head of IT reports into the Deputy Bursar. The Head of IT is responsible for the day-to-day operational management and delivery of the School’s short and medium term IT goals. The Head of IT is required to work closely with teaching colleagues to ensure innovation within the classroom, thus forging the long-term strategic aims of Charterhouse to maintain its status as a world-leading boarding school and developing a similar presence in online and “blended” education.

Relevant Experience/Knowledge & Technical Competencies
The successful candidate will possess a strong track record or potential for achievement in:
- proven track record as a manager, producing accurate and reliable work to deadline, able to listen, to reach sound decisions, to prioritise conflicting demands effectively and to lead a team towards the goals of the organisation
- technically sound, with good working knowledge of standard technologies and experience in the procurement and implementation of new hardware and software systems
- experience of delivering IT-related goals, managing IT projects through to delivery
Personal Competencies / Skills
- a flexible “hands-on” approach which allows team members to develop their own specialisms and the ability to push projects forward as efficiently as possible
- capable of working with wide range of people
- strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing
